Record reports of illegal web posts
A police-commissioned private body engaging in work to delete illegal content from the Internet received a record number of reports on postings of illegal information on foreign-based websites last year, the National Police Agency said Thursday.
The Tokyo-based Internet Hotline Center, which works for the NPA, received 17,662 such reports, up 62 percent from the previous year and the highest since the statistics began in 2006.
The tally also surpassed the number of reports on domestic website postings of such illegal information as child pornography and advertisements of banned drugs for the first time on record. The domestic number was 311 less than the overseas figure.
