Child studies educator arrested on suspicion of creating child porn

An associate professor and head of a child studies department at a junior college was arrested by Yamaguchi Prefectural Police on July 10 on suspicion of creating child pornography, law enforcers said.

Satoru Washioka, 37, associate professor at Aomori Akenohoshi Junior College, is accused of producing child pornography by having a girl he met on an online message board take obscene photos of herself a few separate times in December 2011 using a mobile phone. He allegedly had the girl, aged 15 at the time, send the photos by e-mail.

Washioka became an instructor at the junior college in 2006, and took up the position of associate professor in April last year. His area of research is clinical developmental psychology. Since 2004 he had acted as a school counselor for the Aomori Prefectural Board of Education.
